BRANCH WALKS REPORT

MIDSUMMER WALK & PICNIC -
GILL'S LAP, ASHDOWN FOREST: 20th June 2010
Frankie and I arrived to
a round of cheers, after everyone had waited for us.
This walk is usually a
very popular venue, and we were not disappointed as we had a
gathering of twenty eight hounds, their owners and two ‘honorary hounds’.
We also realised that it was Fathers’ Day, and we would probably have had
a few more had this been on another day.
We we very pleased to
welcome some new members, and of course, we were glad to see our old
We started off in dry
weather, but towards the end of the walk the sun came out and it was quite warm. The
hounds all rushed along together, but a couple of times had to be put on
leads as several groups of horses passed by.
We had a few stops for everyone to
catch up, which allowed for photographs and a little rest. The last few
hundred yards were up a rather steep hill and our three older lady hounds,
although feeling the heat, courageously made it to the top with everyone
The evening ended with a
splendid picnic, to which all members contributed. We all sat around and
enjoyed the food and drink and general conversation. In fact, everyone
seemed very reluctant to pack up and go home.
